God has a purpose and man has a purpose.The enemy also has a purpose.But the Bible says that it is the counsel of the Lord that shall stand. Today’s devotional study will teach you how to cancel the counsel of the enemy and enforce the counsel of God.

Sometime ago, there was a man whose mother had to drag to me to pray for. As the young man stood, I saw a light complexioned lady carrying a coffin, standing close by him. I told the young man that somebody followed him but he disagreed. As we started to pray, the Lord told me that the young man had forced the lady to abort a pregnancy a long time ago and in the process, the lady died and he went to marry another person. 

The Lord told me that within twenty-four hours, the young man would also be in that coffin. As the Lord never lies, within twenty-four hours, the young man died. He was killed by a guardian demon following him.

Guardian demons are assigned are also assigned to people the same way guardian angels are assigned to God’s own annointed. They put a person in trouble and they are the custodian of people’s virtues in the kingdom of darkness. 

They may bear a person’s name in that kingdom. They bring confusion and failure into a man’s life. They sometimes appear to people in dreams and stand to manipulate people’s destinies. They represent the negative part of a person’s life and enforce evil. 

The tragedy is that many people are not aware that such strange spirits are following them.

Beloved, you must pursue, overtake and tackle them, until they are consumed. Give your stubborn pursuers no breathing space.

Aggression is such an important ingredient of spiritual warfare that it warrants being deeply examined in today’s devotional session. I was in a meeting many years back and a professor came for prayers. He had invested his money in some business ventures, but the ship carrying his goods disappeared on the sea.

Everything he invested was gone and poverty was coming. I said, “Prof, you will have to pray today. Sit down and begin to say, “Every owner of the load of poverty, carry your load! in the name of Jesus.” He sat in one corner saying the prayer in a British accent. I left him and faced other things. After about 30 minutes, I heard a scream and he became very violent.

I said, “Prof, any problem?” He said, “As I was praying, I saw a bundle of rags in my hand and I saw an angel standing before me, but before I could say: Jesus is Lord the rag had become two bundles.” He said, “The angel looked at me with disdain and said, ‘You want the rags to go?, if you do, then, Pray violently!’ ” This was what led to the sudden aggression in his prayer. The result of it was that God, from whom all blessings flows, restored his lost investment in multiples.

We do not understand the principles of aggression. The enemy tries to multiply problems and troubles would begin to happen when you try to pray for mercy and divine attention. But, be assured that any cry from the heart will put a break on the Lord to listen to you. 

Matthew 11:12, in today’s Bible passage, the Lord handed over this warning to all Christians.

“As from the days of John the Baptist, until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent taketh it by force.” Why does the violent need to take it by force? The enemy of your soul is wicked and he is not ready to let go easily.

If there is anyone who needs mercy, it is the Lord’s anointed. The chosen ones are very few but it is the special group of people who need mercy with the world’s terrible situation, we need mercy and deliverance, as can be gleaned from the story below.

A man of God was travelling by air to a destination. When he located his seat in the plane, he wanted to go and sit down but there was a man blocking his way to his seat. He wanted to ask the man to allow him to have access to his seat but noticed that the man was praying, so he waited for him to finish. After a while, he went and sat down and turned to the man and said, “God bless you, I can see you are a child of God.”

To his amazement the man shouted at him and said, “I am not praying to your God, I am praying to Satan so that I can destroy Christians.” The man of God was so shocked that he almost fell off his seat. After they got to their destination, the man came down from the plane but the man of God noticed that the man had forgotten a document on his seat. 

The document contains Satan’s agenda. The document contained strategies mapped out during the meeting with his principalities, agents and powers on how to destroy Christians. The document was titled, “The game plan of the enemy against Christians.”

TWO OF THE POINTS UNDERSCORED IN THE DOCUMENTS ARE:

1. Don’t permit Christians to read the Bible - Make them interested in reading anything but the Bible. Make them read magazines and books from the library that will weaken their spiritual lives, so that when temptations come, they will not have any support against them. Beloved, how many times do you read your Bible? Do you make concrete efforts to read your Bible every day? Do you find your Bible very interesting to read?

2. Make Christians too lazy to pray- Make them to become prayerless. Prayerlessness, which is inadequate prayers, prayers with no focus, scattered prayers, the state of not being attentive or not being alert or fervent when praying, being unable to pray even when there is a serious problem to solve is one strategy aimed at diverting Christians from there channel of power dislocation, their intimacy with God, destroying the walking stick with which Christians work with God, their father, master and the strength of their lives.

Today’s passages show that God is the only source of mercy. Seek His face and you shall receive mercy.

Becoming a beneficiary of God’s mercy is not automatic. You must pray specifically for it. You will discover in today’s devotional study that a good number of Bible characters prayed for God’s mercy and heaven answered their prayers. 

No matter the kind of prayers you are praying, do not forget that praying for mercy is very important.In fact, you have to cry for mercy. This is the truth that God wants to share with you today.

You need to cry to God after the order of blind Bartimeaus. He did not possibly know the prayer to pray or even understand the prayer to pray but he did understand the general prayer that can arrest the attention of Jesus. 

After his prayers had put a break on Jesus’, Jesus then asked him for the specific mercy that he needed and Jesus responded by opening his eyes. The prayer for mercy is not a prayer that you pray like a gentleman.

When blind Bartimeaus prayed his prayer, I’m sure he must have sweated profusely. You need to key into the mystery of mercy. When you begin to pray for God’s mercy, situations that are stubborn will bow. 

Where the enemy says you will not reach, you will get there when you ask for God’s mercy. When you ask for God’s mercy, the words of man, clinical prophesies and economic predictions against your life will be completely cancelled. Mercy will make you a favourite of the Almighty.

So, pray for mercy today! Psalm 123:1-4 challenges us to wait upon the Lord until he has mercy upon us. When you start praying for mercy, the rule is that you must keep on praying until you obtain mercy.

I welcome you to the season of mercy. God is going to use today’s devotional studies as a vehicle for conveying you to the harbour of mercy. 

When you hit the season of mercy, you will only stand still and watch God lavish His wonders upon you out of His benevolence.

As can be seen in my experience with one woman. She came to see me in 1985. When she was brought, she had Plaster of Paris on her leg. She was brought on a Sunday and she was supposed to remove the P.O.P. on her leg the following day, which was Monday. 

By the time it was removed her leg was just straight. She could not bend the knee. Her husband had earlier on been retired prematurely from his work place. To add insult to his injury, all the money that she had after working for government for twenty-four years, was used to open a shop; and in just one day, the shop was destroyed by a trailer when it caught fire.

To further compound her problem, her three daughters came to her after a morning devotion, asking her what and who were witches. Her explanation led her to confirm that her three daughters were witches. 

I gave her some prayer points which she prayed for hours. The Lord God of mercy answered her prayers, which allowed her to be ushered into her season of God’s mercy.

Beloved, you are to know when you need God’s mercy. You need it when;

a) Your victory is not complete;

b) Mockers are gathered around you;

c) You are questioned about your God;

d) A satanic audience is waiting for your downfall;

e) Evil powers are challenging God in your life;

f) You are being encouraged to follow worldly patterns and disobey God because you are not getting results.

g) All the members of your family are following an evil pattern and you don’t want to – Your parentage determines the kind of battle you will fight.

h) The enemy has already sucked you dry.

You must ask God to beam a smile of mercy upon you. Pray until God’s mercy envelops your life.

You cannot make it until you are divinely positioned where your glory will appear. The positioned destiny is a destiny that will be garnished with glory.

It is my prayer for you today that God should take you into the deepest depths of mercy. May God lavish his incomparable mercy upon you. May today’s devotional study push you into the divine palace of mercy where your situation will change for the better forever.When you live without mercy, you will die without mercy.

The Bible says in Habakkuk 3:2 that mercy can be found in an appeal in prayer. Mercy can be found in divine authority. Mercy can be found in the power of God. Mercy can be found in the measurement of the Almighty. The commonest prayer in the Book of Psalms is, “Have mercy on me, O Lord.” Beloved, your greatest need is mercy and you will constantly need the mercy of God. You must appeal for God’s mercy. You must cry to God for mercy. You must proclaim the mercy of God on your life.

“But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.” Matthew 12:7 The Bible says that the mercy of God is great, rich, manifold, plenteous, everlasting, tender and new every morning. The Bible says the mercy of God is high as the heavens. The mercy of God is manifest to those that fear Him. God shows mercy to whosoever He will show it to. If you are a Bible student, you must have gotten a picture of the tabernacle in the Bible. There is a place inside the tabernacle called the “Mercy Seat.”

This means that, if not for the mercy of God, people would have been consumed. That is why in the Book of Psalms, mercy is referred to in one hundred (100) different verses. When you combine the Old and New Testaments, mercy is referred to in two hundred and sixty-one (261) different verses.

This underscores the pre-eminence of mercy in the disposition of God to us, His creatures. Your prayer point on any issue of your life should be, “Oh Lord, Have mercy.”

One of the weapons that God has given to us to solve the problems of life is the uncommon weapon called knowledge. No matter how tough a particular problem is, knowing what to do and making use of the knowledge will enable you to overcome the problem.

When you tackle problems from the surface the problem will remain stubborn. The moment you locate the root, you will score easy and cheap victory over the situation. A certain man lost his five children and wife in one day. He went to a powerful herbalist for retaliation and the herbalist said, “Sorry, I have looked at this thing and I cannot do it. From what I can see, the only group of people who have the capacity to break this kind of thing and to retaliate are those of the church by the UNILAG gate. Go there.” The man came to see me and said, “Sir, a herbalist said that I should come here.” So, the herbalist could see what many Christians cannot see.

An invisible force may control or destroy somebody’s destiny, future and progress, if the person is under a curse. When Elisha came out from where he received double portion of power, the people of Jericho rushed to him and said, “Sir, the situation of this place is pleasant…: but the water is bitter and the ground does not yield fruit.” Why did they go to Elisha? It was because they thought that the anointing of God upon him could break that curse. Elijah did not break it before his translation. The man who issued the curse was Joshua, when he said, after the conquest of Jericho. “Woe unto that man that will rebuild this city. When he is laying the foundation, his first son shall die and when he completes it, his last son shall die” (Joshua 6:26).

Four hundred years later as recorded in I Kings 16:34, it happened just like that. Now they wanted the curse upon Jericho to be broken. It was Elisha who broke it. I pray that every old curse under which that you are labouring, shall be broken today, in Jesus’ name. These people chose Elisha because his anointing was comparable to that of Joshua.

So, if a powerful native doctor puts a curse upon somebody, he or she would need a person with a higher anointing to break it. If you can identify the problem and attack it from the root by putting salt therein, the water of your life will be healed.

Yesterday, we examined the curse of retardation or demotion. Among the effect of such a curse is when someone is being converted to a slave. Today we shall look at how to reject any form of demonic enslavement. A curse, in addition to the points made yesterday, is a tragedy that moves from generation to generation. 

You have to understand that. This is why we have a lot of educated illiterates around. Their chains of degrees cannot help them.

Education is not an ability to nullify curses or the ability to defeat the forces limiting your life. A family weakness can move from one generation to another. In some families, it is the curse of premature death as the curse of Eli who was told that no man in his family would enter his grave with grey hair. There are many families like that. There are some families where their members never rise above a particular level.

In Joshua 9:23, we see the curse that was put upon a whole tribe. It says, “Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.” A family or a community can be in a position where it never produces a great person. There are communities where you cannot find any educated man.

Therefore, a curse is a terrible thing. It has a backing force and what you can call an enforcing spirit. Physical relocation does not stop a curse. You need to know how to destroy it. And immediately you begin to do that, your trouble knows that it is in trouble. Escape from a curse by physical relocation is not the answer but spiritual relocation. You must get evil yokes off your neck.You need to pray until you are completely free.

You need the ladder of holiness to move to the next level. When you are holy, you are placing your destiny on a pedestal that will ensure success.

There is no height you cannot attain, no problem you cannot solve and no obstacle you cannot overcome. Today, we are addressing powers that hinder people from going higher in life. I know a brother who ran away to America and did not tell any member of his family. He settled down there, got married and had four children.

He was not writing to anybody at home and nobody knew his whereabouts, and he was doing well. But one night, he had a dream where he saw a dog running after him until it caught up with him and started biting him. When he woke up, he knew that there was trouble. The following morning, a letter arrived from Nigeria with the name of his junior brother at the back as the sender. His people did not know where he was for ten years.

But the morning after he had the dream of the dog which dealt with him, policemen came and showed him a form he had filled about four years earlier which was full of lies. “Were you the one that filled this form?” they asked. And he was instantly deported to Nigeria. It was with the dress that he had on that he arrived at the airport in Nigeria, leaving his wife, children and everything over there. He had relocated to America physically; but he did not relocate spiritually and so trouble followed.

Beloved, you are to note that a curse is a set of words issued for destructive purposes. It is a commission given to satan to limit the life of a person. The enemy may decide to take 20 years out of the life of a person, by issuing a curse. A curse is a force of retardation. So, if you dream of your primary school days or secondary school days or that somebody converted you to a housemaid or houseboy or slave, then you are under a curse of retardation. And you need to break the such a curse.

According to today’s passage, you must break all stubborn curses. Do not allow demoting powers to keep you in the realm of slavery.
